  • Micro contrast sensor suitable for use in small volumes in projects such as sumo robot, minisumo robot.

    The QTR-1RC reflectance sensor carries a single infrared LED and a photo-transistor pair. The photo-transistor on it uses a capacitor discharge circuit and uses the digital input output line on the microcontroller and calculates the reflected IR analog values by measuring the discharge time of the capacitor. Faster capacitor discharge times mean more reflection.

    LED current limiting resistors provide approximately 20-25 mA to LEDs when VIN is 5V. Allowing current needs to be done with some microprocessor I/O lines, enabling power storage start and stop of the sensors via the I/O line. Due to their small size, multiple units can be arranged for placement in applications such as line sensing and proximetry/corner sensing. This module has a single installation hole for the M2 screw (not included); if you don't need this installation hole, this part of the PCB can be grounded to make the unit even smaller.

    This reflectance sensor comes with a 3-pin 0.1" connecting belt, which can be placed on the PCB in a conventional vertical position or in parallel. You can also connect the wires directly to the bearings for the smallest installations.

    It is a single contrast sensor. It has digital output.
    Its working principle is to measure the charge-discharge time (RC time constant) of the capacitor.
    It is more difficult to use than the analog model.
    It is especially suitable for use in narrow volume areas as corner contrast sensor in sumo robots.
