XLINE 16 Line Sensor Board V2 - Digital & Analog Output

Specially designed for larger line area. Each sensor spaced 7mm apart.

Operates at 5V, total current draw is 240mA for all 16 sensors.
Total weight is 8 grams. The size of the XLine board is 138.75mm L x 36.75mm W x 6mm H.

Sensor Pinouts:

OUT 2: Analog Output of Selected Sensor

S3: 4th Selection bit for sensor board

S2: 3rd Selection bir for sensor board

S1: 2nd Selection bit for sensor board

S0: 1st Selection bit for sensor board.

Out 1: Digital Output (Logic 0 or 1).

+: 5V Input

These 4 digital input is used for selecting each sensor. You can think Xline as 16 way railway. Each railway has it's line sensor (analog output). With 4 selection bit up to total 16 combination we select and tie each sensor's output to analog output (OUT 2) also this sensor output is opamp compared and given digital output to OUT 1.

Outputs

Sensor has 2 output one is raw analog output (OUT 2) and other is OUT 2's Opamp compared (with trimpot threshold) digital output.

How to Use Xline V2 Sensor Board

1st we need to determine will we use it as analog or digital according to selection you can connect OUT 1 (Digital) or Out 2 (Analog) output of sensor to MCU (such as Arduino).

Analog output will give between 0V to 5V output between values. As usually line follower tracks are full black and white it will give again near 0V or near 5V outputs. Analog output can be slower to acquire from MCU.

Digital output will give 0V and 5V output depending on trimpot threshold. You can fine tune the sensivity (only applies to OUT 1 digital output). Digital output reading will be faster from MCU.

After connections at code first you will select the sensor It is Binary combination of 4 bits total. Such as:

0 0 0 0: Sensor Number 0 Selected (You will see numbers at each sensor at sensor board)

0 0 0 1: Sensor Number 1 Selected.

...

...

0 1 1 0: Sensor Number 6 Selected.

...

1 1 1 1:  Sensor Number 15 Selected.

We select each sensor with MCU digital pins such as digital Write(Pin number, High).

After selection very short delay needs to be waited for sensor IC to make electronical connection (settling time, usually few tens of microseconds).

After little delay you can use digital or analog reading depending on your robot code.
